Today is National siblings day! Watching the pure love these two have for each other is heartwarming. I knew L would be a great big brother, he always loved babies, but he has exceeded all our expectations. He has never seemed to resent T. He loves him a lil too much sometimes.
T has the biggest smiles for his big brother. Whenever we are working on a new skill and T is fighting it, L will come over and show him and T responds so much better to big bro than me.
I know one of the big questions people who receive a Down syndrome diagnosis is “how will effect my other children”. That wasn’t something I worried about. I had the pleasure to know hundreds of siblings when we had our diagnosis. I was sure this diagnosis would be a blessing for L and our other subsequent children. Siblings of people with Down syndrome tend to be more down to earth, compassionate, understand and show more empathy. L has so much love to give his brother and next brother or sister and T has equal love and admiration for his big bro.
It is a true honor to be their mom and I can’t wait to watch them grow and learn together!!!
